Beaked Ammonite
The Beaked Ammonite is a deep-sea marine mollusk that was unknown to science until just 2 years ago. The Beaked Ammonite was discovered by chance while the divers were scouting an expansive underwater cave system in the Yucatan, Mexico. The divers were scouting one of the deepest caves in the region when one of the divers caught sight of a bright orange creature ahead and decided to investigate.
The Beaked Ammonite is a large deep-sea mollusk thought to be a close relative of the Nautilus and the extinct Ammonite, two of the oldest living species on Earth. The Beaked Ammonite found in the Yucatan was just under 1' 9" long and weighed in at nearly 5kg. The Beaked Ammonite is not an aggressive creature and feeds mostly on crustaceans and small fish.
